Working with the Wall

3 Hour Workshop

Based on Iyengar yoga techniques, this workshop uses the wall as a strong and informative source of support. Students learn how to remain stable and steady even in the most challenging yoga poses. Easy and difficult poses are explored. Students love this workshop and many improve in their postures from the experience! Offered to those of all levels.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Yoga Therapy: Protecting the Spine in Any Yoga Class”][vc_column_text]

Yoga Therapy: Protecting the Spine in Any Yoga Class

22 Hour Workshop (4 Days)

This Four-Day Series of laboratory sessions will address the different directions that the spine moves in a dynamic, flowing practice. In the morning sessions we will begin with a short lecture about the risks that are common in each direction and how to prevent them. Students will then practice this information in a fun, challenging, yoga class. In the afternoons we will break specific poses or points down to learn how to instruct, sequence, and support your students to prevent possible injuries. Participants will learn therapeutic solutions for general aches in each area and practice hands-on adjustments to aid students into poses.

Day One: Extension; Aligning the Spine

We will look at the ideal alignment of the spinal chord and actions that are used to help students maintain their own alignment. This work is extremely powerful and strengthening for the Erector Spinae Muscles, the muscles that hold the vertebrae together. We will look at conditions that affect a straight spine such as Scoliosis, Herniated Discs, Hyper Lordosis, and Hyper Kyphosis.

Day Two: Twists; Wringing Out the Toxins

Twists are not only healing for the internal organs of the body, they are also extremely cleansing for the vertebral discs. We will learn about the health of both vertebrae and discs, and how twists can either harm them or help them. Our yoga practice will explore many different types of twists. When practiced wisely, these twists can bring healing for the back. The conditions of Sciatica and Sacro-Iliac misalignment will be addressed, and techniques will be taught to bring relief for students.

Day Three: Backbends; Opening to the World

Backbends can be extremely opening, improve the Respiratory System, and bring positivity and hope to a student. They can also bring lots of pain and injury when rushed or done with no awareness. This session will focus on the actions that happen anatomically in backbends and how to continually bring the spine back to the alignment of Day One, even if in the deepest of backbends. Attendees will learn how to adjust someone – safely – so that they can get deeper and experience the bliss that one deserves.

Day Four: Forward Folds; Bowing Inward

On this last day, we will look at all of the areas of the body that limit easy forward folding and how to help students through those limitations. Students will learn how to engage the abdominal region to move safely into a Forward Fold. Set up and adjustments for flexible students will be taught in comparison to the set up and adjustments for stiffer bodies.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Hip Openers for Everyone”][vc_column_text]

Hip Openers for Everyone

3 Hour Workshop

A three-hour workshop focused on opening the hips from all six directions. The session opens with a discussion on the hips and the different movement directions that the hips provide. Students then move in a flow practice to warm up the body, followed with long deep holds in poses to release tight muscles in the Physical Body. Unique in this workshop is the application of Chakra Work through imagery, mantra and breathing techniques that release holding in the Subtle and Emotional Body, where tightness in the hips can originate. The workshop ends in a challenging pose, which varies depending on the group, which many students get surprised to find themselves master.

This has become a popular workshop with students who repeat it each time it is offered![/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Twist and Cleanse”][vc_column_text]

Twist and Cleanse

3 Hour Workshop

Twists are some of the most cleansing poses in a yoga practice. By twisting to the right or to the left, we wring out our inner organs like wringing a dirty sponge. When we breathe into these poses it’s as if we were running fresh water over the wringing sponge. The result is a very, very clean sponge. Imagine how that can help your inner organs. And imagine how that can improve your lungs and your perspective on life! This practice opens with breathing techniques to set our intention, and we then move through a flow practice that gradually deepens our twists. Some poses will be held for a minute or longer, which positively affects your Energy Body as well as the Physical Body. The workshop ends with a deeper Pranayama technique and Tantric Meditation that awakens the Third Eye, the place of our Higher Consciousness; a place where we see that which our other eyes cannot see.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”The Radiance of Fire: A Core Experience “][vc_column_text]

The Radiance of Fire: A Core Experience

3-4 Hour Workshop

This workshop was created after I had surgery to repair ligaments around a weak ankle and for three months I could not put weight on my leg, thus not use my legs to practice asana. I had to come up with some way to still move my body, release tension and access energy. What resulted is a way of practicing that helps you access, light, build and maintain a magical flame that dwells from the center of our body – our torso. This flame is not only necessary to digest and assimilate our food, but is needed to help us process our thoughts and emotions, and help us feel confident and stable as we enter the unexpected in our daily life. The work consists mostly of using our core in many different ways; those with limitations in knees, hips and feet are welcome! We will practice poses using Bandhas (energy locks) and Mudras, (energy seals) to light this inner fire. A meditating Tantric Fire Ceremony will follow to teach you how to control this force for your prosperity. You will leave feeling powerful, breathing deeper than ever, and sitting taller than before![/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Finding the Light in our Heart; A Tantric Heart Opening “][vc_column_text]

Finding the Light in our Heart; A Tantric Heart Opening

3-4 Hour Workshop

Backbends are considered some of the most exciting, adventurous and captivating parts of a yoga practice. They can also be scary and harmful when not practiced with awareness. Learning good alignment and how to do a pose safely is one aspect. Learning how to breathe into a backbend is another important aspect to ensure that your pose not only blooms beautifully, but that you can truly feel the opening in your heart.

The heart is meant to be as light as air, and filled with the light of Truth.
Unburden your obstacles and ignite a sacred flame
that will support you throughout your daily life.

This workshop will work on opening the heart, from the inside out. Through a flow practice that builds core heat for the muscles and joints, we will immediately start to apply breathing techniques to access the inner heart. As we start to open, we will go into deeper backbends on the outside, while also moving deeper with our breath and Tantric visualizations on the inside. A special Tantric heart opening meditation will close the workshop.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”The Five Pranas”][vc_column_text]

The Five Pranas

3-4 Hour Workshop

When we think of breathing, we think of just inhaling and exhaling. And when a yoga class gets challenging, we often forget to do both! Breathing is the most important aspect in a yoga practice and can significantly transform a student’s progress.

In the Yogic perspective, there are five specific pathways of breathing and they can either help a pose or negatively affect a pose. In this workshop we will learn all five directions, discover where each of us is deficient, and understand how they affect us on a mental, emotional and physical level. We will then do a practice using these pathways followed by a meditation to set the energy we’ve cultivated. You will leave with new tools to apply to your practice and to your life, expanding beyond your limitations. Your yoga will progress to a new, rewarding level.

This workshop is best suited for intermediate students so that more attention can be paid on the work inside the pose instead of how to do the pose. A handout will be offered summarizing the material.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Tantra, Yoga and the Chakras “][vc_column_text]

Tantra, Yoga and the Chakras

3 Hour Workshop (1 day)
6 Hour Workshop (2 days)

This workshop opens with a 30-minute lecture on the Chakras, their qualities and effects. The idea of Kundalini and how it works is also explained. A yoga practice follows that introduces asana/poses directly connected with each Chakra. Students are guided through visualization, mantra and breathing techniques that help free energy around the Chakras to allow the movement of Kundalini to percolate. The workshop ends with a Pranayama practice and a Tantric meditation that opens the Kundalini channels for spiritual awakening. Students leave with more awareness and freedom in these energy centers and tools to continue parts of the practice on their own. A handout on the Chakras is included in the workshop.

Day 1: Focus on Chakras #1-3, for that is where most of our awareness resides and where most of us are stuck. Students will be lead through a strong asana practice focusing on standing poses, hip openers and core strengthening. They will be introduced to Bandha work (energy locks), Pranavayus (energy channels), Pranayama (breathing techniques) and will end in a Tantric meditation. A handout will be offered summarizing the material.

Day 2: Proceeds to Chakras #4-7, the more subtle planes of awareness. Students will move through a practice focusing on backbends and inversions. In addition to the earlier techniques mentioned, Mantra (chanting) and Mudra (energy seals) will be introduced. We will again end with Pranayama and a different Tantric mediation.

Pratyahara; The Art of Pranayama Into Meditation

Sitting down to meditation is really, really hard for most of us. One of the reasons we struggle is that the outside world is so convincing that it’s hard to leave it behind, even for a little bit. As a result, our mind races in all directions. You will learn breathing techniques to change the way your mind is operating and expand your inner energy. These techniques will bring a relaxed and wise perspective. You will then be guided into a lovely meditation that helps illume the intelligence and love that dwells within you.

This is the true essence of all methods of yoga – to still the mind so that we can see our Highest Self. The more we practice with this intention, the less the outer world can throw us off balance. You will be given a handout on the meditation so that you can continue the practice on your own.

Tantra to Set The Chakras Free

6 Hour Workshop (2 days)

This workshop takes the one-day workshop and expands it into a deeper practice with the Chakras. A handout on the Chakras is included in the workshop. This workshop is sometimes utilized in place of the popular Hip Openers for Everyone Workshop.

Meditation with Mantra, Japa and the Gyatri Mantra

3 Hour Workshop

Many find the topic of meditation to be daunting, scary and just plain difficult. This workshop introduces the method of mantra and how mantra can be a valuable tool to enter into the state of meditation. Bijan Mantras (seed mantras in Sanskrit) are taught with different techniques to apply in a meditation practice. We also review the use of Japa, the constant repetition of a mantra, and learn about the Mala Beads and how to use them. Lastly, the Gyatri Mantra or the Maha Mritunjaya Mantra will be introduced and the workshop ends with the group reciting either mantra the sacred 108 repetitions together.

This workshop is accessible to those who cannot do asana, and thus, is quite popular. It is also very powerful. Mala beads can be sold in connection with the workshop or the workshop may stand on its own without the sale of beads. The beads are not required for the workshop to be successful.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”The Bhagavad Gita: A Closer Look”][vc_column_text]

The Bhagavad Gita: A Closer Look

3 Hour Workshop (1 day)
6 Hour Workshop (2 days)

A lecture workshop reviewing specific chapters of the Bhagavad Gita, and how it applies to the history and philosophy of yoga, as well as the present time. Passages of the Gita are read together and discussions follow. Students are invited to bring their own translations, although it is not required for the workshop.

One Day – The workshop gives an overview of the Gita and moves deep into the most popular chapters and parts of the chapters. Information is taught to entice the student to read more on his/her own as a form of deeper study and practice.

Two Days – When offered as a two-day workshop, each chapter is read aloud, contemplated and discussed. Meditations are also offered each day to heighten the experience.

Great for devoted yoga students or Teacher Trainees, many studios offer a copy of the Gita at a discount to encourage usage of the same translation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Dharana to Dhyana: The Art of Practicing and Teaching Meditation”][vc_column_text]

Dharana to Dhyana: The Art of Practicing and Teaching Meditation

The terrain of meditation is often scary, vague and lonely, which leaves many of us concluding that we just can’t fit in. Before trying to still the mind, you will learn about the variable aspects that make up the mind and how each operates. Then, students will learn the art of concentration, known as Dharana, which is necessary before accessing the sublime journey of meditation. We will practice a variety of methods to cultivate Dharana and learn how to teach this to fellow students. Through this concentration, students will learn how to allow the space of meditation, Dhyana, to reveal itself. We will start with some lecture, application of a number of different meditation techniques and time for questions. We will end in a longer guided meditation to close the day.

This workshop is open to yoga teachers, meditation teachers and devoted yogis. Jeanne will be addressing how to teach meditation to students and how to work with the variety of reactions to meditation. Thus, it is highly recommended that students attend the earlier Tantra, Yoga and the Chakras workshop to learn from her examples.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Dharana to Dhyana: Turning on the Light in the Third Eye”][vc_column_text]

Dharana to Dhyana: Turning on the Light in the Third Eye

2 Hour Workshop

It is said that the Third Eye, Ajna Chakra, is the eye that sees what is necessary for the soul. Most of us are blind to this area or have a fuzzy sense of what it’s all about. In this session you will learn Pranayama techniques from the Himalayan Masters to build Prana (Life Force) and contain that Prana. When we can contain it, it becomes even more powerful. The harnessing of this power is called, Prana Dharana, and it is an ancient Tantric technique referred to in the Mahabharata and other ancient scriptures.

Dharana to Dhyana: Sutra 1:36 and the Light Within the Heart

We will cover Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, which don’t make a lot of sense until you have a teacher to fill in the gaps between the lines. Jeanne will share teachings she has learned from her teachers and a specific Tantric practice to awaken the breadth and depth in our heart. This practice is especially healing for those who have sadness and hurt in their hearts, and powerful for those who are rebuilding their hearts.
